Every year, the British Sandwich Association holds a competition to try and find the Sandwich Designer of the year and this year, Millitec are throwing their hat in the ring.
In the sandwich world, this competition is a pretty big deal. Contenders go all to create innovative and mouth-watering sandwiches in the hopes of winning the prestigious Sandwich Designer of the Year title.
There are six categories each with a sponsored ingredient ranging from pomegranate and Mango chutney, shredded duck leg meat and fiery Mexican chilli cheese. The rules are simple: recipes entered can use any ingredients, any breads and any cooking/presentation methods you can come up with but they must contain at least one of the supplied ingredients. Competitors can also enter up to two recipes for each of the supplied ingredients.
The ingredients arrived to us last week and on Monday, lunch was extended so that the whole work force could get involved coming up with tasty sandwiches – some a little more daring than others (Mexican cheese and beetroot relish anyone?)!
Personal highlights included duck with pomegranate and mango chutney and Applewood cheese with Italian hams and after a good hour of deliberating, our winners were chosen. Highlights include:
- Panini with roasted chicken breast, mozzarella, tomato and pesto
- White toasted bagel with honey roasted ham, baby spinach, rocket salad with Mexicana cheese
